Advocacy is one of our key activities we do as an organization. We do a lot of it to influence the decisions of stakeholders, game changers, economic, and social institutions etc. Our advocacy also includes campaigns on radio and other for a such Coordination and Sectorial meetings to influence public policy, laws and budgets by using facts from 2011 Disability Act Sierra Leone.
Awareness Campaign is one of the strongest tools we have used in the past and we are still using to change the negative perception of the Public towards PwDs. We do this effectively through radio discussions of relevant topics, community and school outreach etc. Through this, OTC has succeeded in for the construction of ramps at public buildings to create easy access for PwDs.
The ability to read and write is also very key to Skills Training components. We therefore introduced this component to strengthen our system as a way of making sure that our students and other interested members of our institution have the chance to learn to read and write, understand numbers and learn simple calculations to aid them do measurements, simple book keepings etc
OTC outreach is divided into two (Community and School/Institution outreach). Our outreach in communities covers all 16 chiefdoms in Kenema district, whilst Outreach in schools/Institutions also covers all Schools/Institutions in Kenema district. Therefore, Outreach in Schools/Institution and Communities can be held in any community or school/institution. Our overall aim of the outreach is to raise awareness to reducing stigma, discrimination among PwDs and attract more students. Increased enrolment at our Skills Training Center and provide a higher quality education to enable students enter either a formal educational track or obtain work after graduation.
